Two days of music that will culminate with the walk that will take you from Piazza Dante THE LARGEST SAXOPHONE ENSAMBLE IN ITALY to walk through the streets of the historic center to end the evening with a evocative concert in the courtyard of the Royal Palace.
Friday 24th And Saturday, May 25th Naples is preparing to live a unique musical experience: over 250 saxophonists, arriving from every corner of Italy and the world, will meet at the San Pietro a Majella Conservatory of Music, to create the largest saxophone ensemble in Italy.
Thanks to the Giuseppe De Matola Foundation created by Dr. Ann Pizzorusso in memory of his companion, Neapolitan rock'n roll saxophonist and to Prof.Francis Salime, an internationally renowned classical saxophonist who, after 35 years of teaching at the Conservatory, has decided to bring together all his former and current students for a unique concert, the event will be of exceptional proportions.
SaxophoneEvent will unfold over two days packed with events, starting on Friday 24 May at the Conservatory with the first concert and performance of
Alessandro Malagnino, one of the most renowned saxophonists in the world. The evening will end with the awarding, by the
godmother of the event was Dr. Pizzorusso, of an honor for artistic merit to Alessandro Malagnino and with the
awarding of five students of saxophone with the
Giuseppe De Matola Scholarship.
On Saturday 25th May, starting at 9.00, again at the San Pietro a Majella Music Conservatory, the performances of the 14 different guest orchestras, each with a selected repertoire of classical and modern music. The conference by Prof. will follow at 12.00.Luciano Inguaggio, world-famous historian and collector, on vintage saxophones. At 4:00 p.m. Alessandro Malagnino will play solo.
At the end of the performance, thanks to the collaboration with the
Municipality of Naplesand the
San Carlo Theater, the largest saxophone orchestra in Italy will move from the Conservatory to Piazza Dante, where a first concert will be held linked to the inauguration of the sculpture exhibition dedicated to Julian Assange. The musical walk that will take the
250 saxophonists to arrive in the suggestivecourtyard of the Royal Palace, an ideal place to pay homage to the city of Naples, which has always been a source of inspiration for great musicians from all over the world, where the closing concert of the
SaxophoneEvent 2024.
There Giuseppe De Matola Foundation, born in 2023 from the will of Dr. Ssa Ann Pizzorusso, celebrates the memory of his companion Joseph DeMatola, always eager to help saxophone students in their studies. Precisely for this reason the Foundation aims to support young talents thanks to theawarding of five annual scholarships and promoting International Masterclasses and Free Events to bring more and more people closer to the world of the sax. This year the support for SaxophoneEvent will give the Foundation the opportunity to create a Saxophone Study Center in Naples, with the aim of increasing the city's importance in the international music scene.
Born in Cortale, he is a classical saxophonist, with French training. He has performed in concerts all over the world as a soloist, collaborating with theOrchestra of the Teatro S. Carlo of NaplesAndthe'Orchestra of the National Academy of S. Cecilia of Rome. His performances with artists such asAndrea BocelliAndEnnio Morricone. He is currently a saxophone teacher at the "San Pietro a Majella" Conservatory of Music in Naples and has been conducting his own active musical production since 1997.
Esteemed saxophonist, he began his musical studies in Italy, graduating with top marks and an honorable mention. He continued his studies in France, at Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, where he completed his master's degree with the jury's approval. He subsequently obtained the 3rd cycle diploma "Artist-Diploma" with the Next ensemble. At the end of his training, he began to perform both as a soloist that with other formations of chamber music, always demonstrating a great interest in contemporary music. Malagnino won the second prize in the competition "Adolphe Sax of Dinant”, the most prestigious competition in the world, and the first prize in the competition "Adolphe Sax de l'Haÿ-Les-Roses”, to name just a few of the many awards received.
