International Saxophone Masterclass

with Maestro Otis Murphy

The Conservatory of Music San Pietro a Majella in Naples hosts an International Saxophone Masterclass held by Maestro Otis Murphy of theIndiana Jacobs School, which will take place on the days 29 - 30 - 31 March 2023.

The Masterclass is promoted and supported by Mrs. Ann Pizzorusso in memory of Joseph DeMatola, with the collaboration of Yamaha.


There Masterclass is free and is open to all up to a maximum of 20 external students as auditors.


Applications for participation must be sent, according to the model attached on the Conservatory website, by March 20, 2023.


All participants will be given a certificate.

Otis Murphy is a saxophone instructor at the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. He is the youngest member in the history of the university, having begun teaching at just 28 years old.


Murphy has extensive international experience, having performed in over 25 countries around the world, including major venues such as Carnegie Hall's Isaac Stern Auditorium, Merkin Hall (New York City), Casals Hall (Tokyo), Palau de la Musica (Valencia), and Muziekgebouw aan het Ij (Amsterdam).


An experience that has earned him numerous awards, including prizes at the Adolphe Sax International Saxophone Competition in Belgium and the Jean-Marie International Saxophone Competition.

Among his many collaborations and four solo albums, Murphy’s recordings have consistently received critical acclaim. His recent performance of Ellen Taafe Zwilich’s Quintet for Alto Saxophone and String Quartet with the renowned Pacifica Quartet garnered rave reviews worldwide. Pacifica’s Contemporary Voices album, on which Murphy performs, won the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music Performance/Small Ensemble.


In addition to Indiana University, Murphy has taught at music schools around the world, including the Paris Conservatory, the Amsterdam Conservatory, the Cologne Academy of Music, the Academy and the International Wind Instrument Festival of

Hamamatsu, the Royal College of Music in London, and many others. His students have received awards in national and international competitions and are members of major military concert bands in various branches of the U.S. military.
